...must come down

Read The Guardian's article on the rise and fall of the new and over-hyped
Watch the video for Next Big Things Arctic Monkeys'Fake Tales of San Francisco and The Checks' What You Heard

It's a very sad thing when that young starlet of a band, hyped by the press, radio, and everyone in-between, begin to lose that glow. How many times has it happened? A quick rise to success leads to a faster fall. The music industry now, particularly the "London Scene," is ushering new bands in as soon as the are spitting old ones out, and it the wake of The Libertines the scene seems to be doing such on twice the speed (pun quite intended). Band like The Kaiser Chiefs , Bloc Party , and The Bravery have all just released albums, and already the backlash has come from the indie snobs who were proclaiming these bands excellence when they were relatively unheard of one year ago. These indie snobs have therefore deserted their favorites from last years and have moved on to favor new acts like The Arctic Monkeys and The Checks, and the NME is close behind. Yesterday's Brand New Baby is today's star, and tomorrow's has-been. I pity those bands that will look back a year later and wonder where it all went pear shaped for them. Bands like The Subways can live on hype alone, the music can't be the result of a fad in the industry. Not all bands are like The Libertines , pushed through the press by name alone, and as much fame as The Libs gained from tabloids, at least there was some substance in the music behind those headlines.

The Guardian had an interesting piece about the cyclic speedy rise and fall of bands in the music industry at the moment. The pdf illustration is really interesting, and if you think about it, true. It makes me almost feel sorry for NME's Next Big Thing.

my (sharona's) life is my business

Spoiler Boy feat. Art Brut - My Sherona Formed a Band

Outsider Art indeed. After already giving you that Art Brut/ Why Lout?fantabulous remix here's another little gem, or I should say Brutleg. No, I would have never imagined Eddie Argos and co. would have a Knack(har, har) for the remix game, but they play it so well. Anyway, have a listen and a laugh, and maybe I'll pop up that Art Brut 87 Franchise TOTP remix later.

Art Brut's debut album Bang Bang Rock & Roll is out Monday May 30th. click link to order from hmv

Watch The Cribs' video for Mirror Kissers

How good are The Cribs? How good are the bleeding Cribs? I first heard their forthcoming single, Mirror Kissers, last night on JK and those Jarman boys blew me away. Catchy as ever, you'll find yourself doing backing vocals by the first chorus

return of the hair, not sith

VS.

Back in February when I saw Mr. Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand at the Grammy's I wondered WHAT WAS HE THINKING?? His fop mop had been hacked off and replaced by a Hitler Youth buzz cut. Glad to see I am not the only one disturbed by this faux pas in the hair department as there seems to be some petition going around demanding the (rightful) return of Kapranos' locks. The group who seem to be called 'The Undersigned' state:
"We have decided that it is necessary to start up this petition, asking for Mr. Kapranos to kindly grow his fringe back, so that freedom, truth, beauty, justice and hair-flipping are restored to mankind."

All I'm saying Alex is the HJ look ain't attractive.

NME.com for the entire article concerning Kapranos' cuts.

Listen to Maximo Park's debut album in full at NME.com

I'm always a bit anxious when an artist whose had some great singles releases a debut album, I mean look at Bloc Party. I loved Banquet, Little Thoughts, Helicopter, all of their singles, but then the album came out, and what a disappointment. Now Maximo Park are on the cusp of their debut release, and let's hope theirs fairs a bit better. The Park's A Certain Trigger comes out on Warp on May 16, but now at NME.com you can listen to the album in full. I've yet to hear the new songs, but if this stuff's as good as The Coast is Always Changing, I'll be pleased.

Miss Fairchild - One Love feat. Mary J. Blige

Ok, I know I yousendit(ed?) this song early, but it's just so fabulous that I thought it should be known that the Miss Fairchild site has the song available for download again(they exceeded their bandwidth early). Every time I play the rock she rolls, nice.

Ugly Brother - from the album 'If You Can't Join Em, Beat Em'.

DJ Format it has to be said, it rather entertaining. Not quite sure what to make of him at first when I heard Ugly Brother I found the man hilarious. Mocky style dry wit and irony mixed with some old school charm; if you don't like the music at least admit the titles of the album is snarklingly good.

pull your socks up and stand up tall

There is definitely some irony in the fact that as soon as I leave the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area all the good people are scheduled to play there. First I missed Dizzee Rascal because of a bleeding 8am exam, now that I've left the Futureheads are coming back, and Willy Mason, British Sea Power( who's new album is rather good), Dinosaur Jr. and Sleater-Kinney. Bleeding rotten luck indeed.

Velly, velly, interesting.
